For the second time this year, the Special Forces unit receives an honorary decoration from the IDF chief of staff; ‘The link between intelligence, technology and operational abilities is greatly beneficial,’ says Eisenkot.

The Special Forces reconnaissance unit Sayeret Matkal was awarded an honorary decoration in a special ceremony held on Wednesday. Units within the Military Intelligence Directorate—namely the Special Operations Unit, the Special Operations Intelligence Unit and the Technology Division—were also awarded certificates of appreciation.

“The link between intelligence, technology and operational abilities is greatly beneficial, and will continue to be. At its core, we have the people, and that is why we have gathered here today—for the combination between creative thinking, wisdom and gumption,” said IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, who handed out the awards.

“This work requires vision and leadership, which brings about innovative achievement, and that is what this award commemorates,” continued Eisenkot.

Eisenkot awarded Sayeret Matkal its previous decoration in March of this year, for “military operations, clandestine and daring, which the unit carried out over the last two years.”
