Addressing once more his position that same-sex urges must be controlled, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Bayit Yehudi) confessed that he has sexual fantasies of his own, though he did not choose to elaborate any further on the issue.
MK Bezalel Smotrich (Bayit Yehudi) continues to saunter down the vehemently homophobic path he has laid down for himself time and again. This time, however, he came out with a confession regarding his own fantasy life.
Smotrich gave an interview on the Knesset Channel on Wednesday, reiterating his steadfast opposition to same-sex relations. “Just as you can’t desecrate Shabbat, you can’t have relations with someone of the same sex. There is, of course, no such prohibition against the inclination itself, assuming that people are born with it or acquire it. Regarding what people who hold an inclination they cannot act on do, well, that’s a tough question.”
At this point the conversation took a bit of a detour from Smotrich’s main point of gays fighting their temptation. “I need to tell you a secret of mine, a confession,” he announced to the interview panel, before managing to put his thoughts into words. “I, too, have sexual fantasies that I supposedly can’t act on, like we all do, okay?” After a brief moment of silence, the male interviewer nervously laughed and asked him whether he would like to elaborate on that. Cocking his head to the left, Smotrich sheepishly smiled and replied, “No, not on this matter.”
The female interviewer sitting next to Smotrich suggested that perhaps they should change to topic and take a closer look at those stifled desires of his. Smotrich again declined, before adding, “What I mean to say is that every person, whether he is religious or secular, needs to know how to control himself and control his urges and lust, otherwise we end up with rape cases and other incidents that we don’t want to have.”
A relatively new MK, who was only elected to the Knesset in 2015, Smotrich has consistently taken a hard line against LGBT rights and same-sex commingling. As a young man, he spearheaded the Beast Parade alongside the Pride Parade that compared gays to livestock, something that he has since apologized for.
