Cambridge City, IN – A lottery official says 1 jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing.

Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty tells The Associated Press the ticket was sold in Indiana.

Friday’s jackpot was worth an estimated $540 million.

An estimated $1 billion in tickets have been sold since the last jackpot-winning ticket was drawn in early March. This is the longest Mega Millions run without a winner.

Tickets are sold in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

A small Indiana town where a Mega Millions ticket worth an estimated $540 million was sold is buzzing with speculation about who might be the big winner.

The winning ticket for Friday’s drawing was sold at a Speedway station along Interstate 70 in Cambridge City, a town of about 2,000 residents 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

Town Council President Mark McCarty says if the winner is a local, it won’t take long for word to spread about who it is.

Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce President Beth Leisure says she’s “happy for whoever it is,” even if the winner isn’t from the town known for its antique stores.

Robert Williams, who works at the town’s National Road Antique Mall, says customers are excited and “everybody’s wondering who it is.”
