The Foreign Ministry on Sunday night condemned a short settler video that showed the EU Ambassador to Israel Lars Faaborg-Andersen wearing the cannibal muzzle from the movie Silence of the Lambs.

The video which was on the Facebook page of a non-governmental settler group called Jerusalem’s Periphery Forum. It represents the settlements outside of Jerusalem, particularly those along Route 1, as the road descends to the Dead Sea.

The group has been particularly vocal on the issue of illegal Palestinian and Beduin building that is funded by the European Union.

On Sunday night the group charged that Andersen was behind that building.

“He’s the man that stands behind the illegal building around Route 1. He is creating facts on the ground so that there can be contiguous territory for a terrorist state in the future.

“It would be unthinkable for Israeli ambassadors in Europe to create outposts for the refuges. In that same way we can’t let Andersen challenge us by acting in a way that endangers all of us.

“We have to restrain Andersen,” the video said.

As its last shot, it showed Andersen wearing a mask that was akin to the one that serial killer and cannibal Hannibal Lecter wore in the iconic horror movie Silence of the Lambs.

Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold said he condemned the disrespectful way Andersen was portrayed in the video.

Meretz MK Tamar Sandberg said this kind of a “manhunt” cannot be legitimized.

MK Michal Rozin asked the Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to investigate the organization that created the video and asked him to uncover the group’s financial backers.

Rozin asked Mandelblit to investigate whether the video is considered to be unlawful incitement and whether the group has received any public funds.
