The baby’s mother was driving her five children to Jerusalem when they were suddenly hit by rocks; glass slivers were removed from baby’s face at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Aviel Mamo, a three-week-old baby, suffered light wounds Thursday from a rock hit the car his mother was driving.

Mamo was evacuated to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem with slivers of glass in his eye and received treatment for his wounds. “We left this place only three weeks ago, I never imagined we would be back here so soon, and yet here we are,” said Rachel Mamo, Aviel’s mother.

Rachel, a mother of five from Beitar Illit, was traveling to Jerusalem Thursday morning with her children to spend time together in honor of Hanukkah. Near the exit from the town, her vehicle was attacked with stones and Aviel was hit by slivers of glass.

“I spoke with my sister and suddenly I blacked out. I have no idea where the rock came from, it came flying right at me,” she stated. “I hit the brakes, not really knowing what to do.”

All of Rachel’s other children were in the car at the time of the attack. “I looked around to make sure there was no one else there, so as not to be attacked again,” she recounted. “The baby’s face was all covered with slivers of glass. I was afraid to touch him for fear of having the slivers injure him further. It was a miracle, angels were guarding him from above.”

The slivers were removed from the infant at the hospital. “Everyone panicked. The situation was so difficult that I screamed and screamed, it was scary,” said the mother. “The children reacted quite well, I hope that neither the other children nor the baby will be traumatized. He has a special name, angels that were guarding the Aviel. . ”
