New York – The power outage that struck the mid-Hudson region Saturday evening appears to be widespread.

Times Herald Record reports, that outages were reported as far west as Milford, Pa., and as far west as Forestburgh, in Sullivan County. Downtown Middletown was without power, also parts of the Town of Wallkill, including the Galleria at Crystal Run, which was evacuated.

Tens of thousands were in the dark shortly before 8:30 p.m.

Orange and Rockland Utilities posted on their web site, that the cause of the power outage is attributed to a transmission equipment failure at the Shoemaker substation in Middletown, causing approximately 52,000 outages.

State police at the Troop F headquarters in the Town of Wallkill were indundated with reports of people without power. Many traffic signals were reported out, and heightened concerns. State police were increasing their manpower in the area to handle outage-related problems, one trooper said.

O&R said these outages will be restored in stages and power should be restored by midnight.
