New York – The nation’s largest health insurer is questioning its future in public insurance exchanges, the latest signal of major concerns about the online marketplaces that have helped the rdable Care Act extend coverage to millions of people.
New York – New York City’s police commissioner has said the mayor was late to acknowledge rising homelessness a day after his boss pledged $2.6 billion toward the problem.
William Bratton said Thursday that street homelessness had “exploded” during the past two years under Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH’-zee-oh).
The Wall Street Journal reports he said the administration’s mistake “was not validating what everyone was seeing.”
There are currently about 58,000 people living in city shelters, up around 13 percent from two years ago. A few thousand more people are believed to be living on the streets.
De Blasio denied homeless was up this summer. But the numbers showed otherwise, and tabloid exposes made the issue politically sensitive.
Administration officials note homelessness started spiking in 2014. They have pledged reforms.
