Washington –  Vice President Joe Biden has invited the police officer injured in his motorcade to visit with him in Washington.

The New York Police Department motorcycle officer was in an accident Friday while escorting Biden’s motorcade to LaGuardia Airport. From the motorcade, he could be seen lying face-down on the ground, bleeding, as other officers assisted him.

Biden spoke to the officer by phone on Saturday. Biden’s office says he offered the officer his best wishes for a full recovery and thanked him for his service. He’s inviting the officer to visit as soon as his recovery is complete.

The accident occurred after Biden marked the anniversary of 9/11 in New York with events with police officers and firefighters.

The injured officer’s name has not been released.
