An unidentified man looks up the annexation map before the hearing on June 10, 2015

Monroe, NY – Four days after the public comment portion of the official annexation process came to a close, the Village of Kiryas Joel has announced that several thousand comments have been received, with less than one and a half percent opposing the annexation.

A statement released Friday by the village announced that 4,110 comments were submitted, with just 56 votes coming out against the proposed expansion.  The ten day public comment period that followed the June 10th public hearing is part of the state prescribed annexation process.

Comments, which have been posted online at www.kjseqra.com, were tendered by village residents, annexation petitioners, elected officials, local organizations and members of the public.

All comments made at the five hour long hearing, as well as those received in writing, will be responded to later this summer in a final generic environmental impact statement being prepared by the village board, department heads and Tim Miller Associates, planning consultants for Kiryas Joel.
