LONDON – Popular broadcaster Vanessa Feltz, 63, revealed she was singled out and harassed by a pro-Palestinian protester in central London because “I’m known to be Jewish.”
Feltz told how, after finishing her LBC show, she was walking to the Tube station when a man began shouting at her through a megaphone, calling her “fascist Zionist scum” and chasing her. Despite wearing wedge shoes and carrying a handbag, she feared for her safety and worried others might join the attacker. A passerby eventually helped her reach safety underground.
The incident highlights a growing wave of antisemitic hate crimes in the UK, which have recently surpassed Islamophobic incidents in number. Campaign Against Antisemitism’s CEO, Gideon Falter, condemned the violence, linking it to ongoing extremist support for Hamas and the Iranian regime.
This attack comes amid heated debates about racism and antisemitism in British politics, including controversial comments by Labour MP Diane Abbott regarding Jewish experiences of racism.
Vanessa Feltz’s ordeal underscores the rising fears within the Jewish community about open prejudice and violence on UK streets.
