MIDDLE EAST — A broad range of Palestinian groups have blasted Ra’am leader Mansour Abbas after he did what many Arabs consider unthinkable–he recognized Israel as a Jewish state.
On Wednesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (in his seventeenth year of a four-year term), issued a scathing rebuke of the Arab Joint List MK who said that “Israel was born a Jewish State and will remain one.”
In a statement he said, “These irresponsible statements are consistent with the calls of extremists in Israel to displace the Palestinians and harm the status of the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque and the history of the Palestinian people.”
He added that Mansour “promotes the Zionist colonial project,” and “It is unfortunate that instead of siding with the rights of his people and condemning the settlements, killings and displacement committed by the occupation and the plans of Israeli extremists to empty Palestinian lands, we see him repeating the lies of the Zionist movement.”
The Fatah party said Mansour’s comments were a “cheap alignment with the Zionist narrative, which falsely monopolizes the history of Palestine.”
It also accused the Arab MK of “turning his back on his people and their national cause by throwing himself into the arms of Zionism.”
Terror group Hamas said the comments “represent a flagrant bias in favor of the Zionist narrative, and a clear violation of the position of the Palestinian national consensus.”
Hamas affirmed that they will be undeterred in their mission to wipe out Israel, saying they will “remain steadfast on their historical land and refuse to give up an inch of it.”
The PLO Executive Committee also came out swinging, saying the Arab MK supports Israeli “racist” laws.
