New York – Officials say children playing with fire on a stovetop caused a blaze in the Bronx that spread to five other buildings and sent several firefighters to the hospital.
One hundred seventy firefighters responded to the fire which broke out at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in a two-story building. The fire spread to the other buildings before it was brought under control about two hours later.
Officials say one firefighter collapsed after suffering a heat stroke and another had a heart attack. Both were hospitalized in critical but stable condition. A third firefighter was treated and released for serious burns.
In a separate incident, a firefighter suffered a serious arm injury in an accident while responding to the fire.
