More American Jews are sending their children to Orthodox day schools, as total enrollment is up 12 percent from 2008, according to statistics from a nonprofit.
As of 2014, almost 255,000 students attend 861 Jewish day schools, from preschool to 12th grade, according to the Avi Chai Foundation.
The survey also reported that 59 more Jewish schools have opened in the U.S. since 2008.
Part of the spike is because of birthrates in the hareidi community. Sixty percent of all Jewish students in day school are hareidi.
But enrollment in Conservative day schools has dropped by 27% since 2008. Reform schools have also taken a big hit, as the number of students is down 19% from just five years ago.
