NEW YORK – Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic front-runner in the New York City mayoral race, is facing two criminal referrals filed Tuesday by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, which claims his campaign accepted illegal contributions from foreign donors, according to the New York Post.

The watchdog group alleges Mamdani may have violated both the Federal Election Campaign Act and New York election laws, pointing to roughly $13,000 raised from over 170 contributors with addresses outside the U.S., including one in Dubai.

While Mamdani’s campaign has returned some foreign contributions, records show at least 88 donations totaling $7,190 have not yet been refunded. Campaign spokesperson Dora Pekec said some donors may be U.S. citizens living abroad and affirmed that the campaign has compliance protocols in place to address impermissible donations.

The DOJ and Manhattan District Attorney’s office have not yet commented on the referrals.
