Police searching for female suspect in attack, which takes place at the entrance to the flashpoint Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood
An Israeli woman was stabbed in the back and wounded at the entrance to the flashpoint Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, police said.
They said medics were treating the woman, who was 26 years old, and evacuating her to the nearby Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said that the woman was brought in with stab wounds to her back, but is fully conscious and in moderate condition.
Police said they were searching for a female suspect who fled the scene.
Magen David Adom paramedics said the woman was stabbed while she was on her way to bring her children to school.
“When we arrived we saw near the entrance to Sheikh Jarrah a woman with children who was on her way to bring them to their daily programs when she was stabbed,” said MDA’s Moshe Cordova and Dudi Gur. “She was walking and fully conscious.”
The paramedics said they treated the woman and evacuated her to the hospital, and that her children were unharmed and remained with police officers at the scene.
The incident is the latest in a string of similar terrorist attacks in Jerusalem. On Saturday, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed a man walking next to the Old City of Jerusalem before being shot dead by Border Police officers.
