Crown Heights – In the aftermath of several recent mass shootings, Bnos Menachem of Crown Heights is the first school in NYC to step up their school security by installing metal doors, according to a report by the NY Post.
One door of a planned 90 has already been installed, with the rest to follow.
The metal classroom doors weigh 150 pounds each. They are made galvanized steel and are fortified inside by metal bars for additional security. The doors can be easily locked from the inside with a thumb turn, without the need for electricity. Each door has a bullet proof window.
The doors cost $2,500 apiece, but the security advantage and peace-of-mind is no doubt worth every penny.
