Rochester, NY – A western New York man is hospitalized with burns suffered when his car exploded at a gas station where video surveillance captured the blast and the man being engulfed in flames.
Rochester police say the 45-year-old man from the neighboring suburban town of Greece had placed a gas can in the trunk of his car after parking near the front door of a Sunoco station around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The video shows the man opening the driver’s-side door and leaning into the car when a fiery explosion blows him onto the pavement with his upper body on fire. The man then rolls across the ground and out of the camera’s view. The car continued burning and was engulfed in flames.
Police say the man is being treated for injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.
