Security forces uncovered material en route to the Gaza Strip to aid in the digging of tunnels; metal pipes used to make mortars and water pumps used to pump water out of tunnels were found.
Security forces in cooperation with the Shin Bet stopped a shipment of metal tubes and water pumps into the Gaza Strip Thursday morning.
The metal tubes are of the variety typically used by Hamas terrorists to construct mortars, while the water pumps are typically used to pump water out of Hamas tunnels as they are being dug. The items were being shipped disguised in a textile and jewlery shipment. The seizure occurred at the Tarkumiya checkpoint next to Hebron.
The tubes and motors were supposed to continue with the textiles and jewelry into Gaza, and were supposed to pass through the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza.
Earlier in April, the Shin Bet uncovered four tons of ammonium chloride being smuggled from Egypt into Gaza hidden amongst a shipment of salt. Ammonium chloride is used as a component in long range rocket propellant.
