Suspect drives away after pulling knife on soldier outside Sde Dov military airfield; soldier escapes without injury
A soldier narrowly escaped a stabbing attempt at the entrance to an airport in Tel Aviv, police said Tuesday.
The stabber escaped the scene in his car and large forces were deployed to search for the suspect in the busy city early Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the suspect was in a car and drove up to the soldier at a bus stop near the entrance to the Sde Dov airport.
After speaking with him, the suspect pulled out a knife. The soldier managed to run away before being injured, police said.
Officials were treating the case as being “nationalistically motivated,” a spokesperson said.
Police did not give a description of the suspect or his vehicle.
The small airport, at the northern end of Tel Aviv, is divided between military aircraft and commercial planes.
Tel Aviv, the country’s financial and cultural heart, has seen a number of attacks during a nearly six-month round of violence, including at least two stabbings and a deadly shooting.
