Jerusalem – The City of Jerusalem is in mourning tonight after an 11-year-old boy from Ramot Aleph was pronounced dead after falling down a staircase shaft in his school in Jerusalem.
Both Magen David Adom paramedics and United Hatzalah volunteers responded to the scene to administer first aid and evacuated the boy in critical condition to Shaare Tzedek Hospital. The incident occurred a half-hour before the end of shabbos.
The boy has been identified as Nesanel Yechaya.
A United Hatzalah first responder said that though the gate of the school was locked, the boy and his friends apparently climbed the gate in order to play on the school premises, particularly the roof from which he fell. An approximate four story fall from the opening in the roof leading to the shaft was the cause of death.
“When I arrived on the scene the child was unconscious, he had no pulse, and wasn’t breathing after having entered the school facility with him friends and falling from a great height while playing on the roof of the school,” said United Hatzalah volunteer Isaac Katz. “We conducted resuscitation maneuvers in an attempt to save his life.”
He was buried after midnight this evening on Har Ha’Menuchos.
