An ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper in Israel photoshopped all females from a front page photo of 40 world leaders gathered at a rally supporting victims of the shooting at the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
The phony photo from the Monday edition of HaMevaser (The Announcer) completely erased German Chancellor Angela Merkel and cropped out Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorington-Schmidt and EU Foreign Affairs and Security Chief Federica Mogherini.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz wrote in an editorial that the anti-femme Photoshop is part of HaMevaser’s longstanding Orthodox policy to not publish pictures or even the names of women in its pages.
The rally drew more than a million people, reportedly the largest gathering in French history, to support Charlie Hebdo after 12 people were killed in a terrorist attack against the newspaper last week.
