Jerusalem – Israeli investigators continue to probe the cause of a deadly Beit Shemesh fire yesterday, which left a seven year old boy dead and injured four others. The funeral for the victim was held yesterday.
According to Israel National News, Daniel Nachman Biton died in the Chanukah fire, which may have been caused by unattended menorahs left burning after the family went to sleep. An elderly grandfather in a wheelchair and a caregiver were the first to be rescued from the blaze and the injured included both parents, age 45, an 11 year old brother, a five year old sister and another man. As previously reported on VIN News, the injured were taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.
A spokesperson for the Jerusalem Fire District and Rescue Services said that the apartment was actively burning when they arrived on scene, just two minutes after being notified of the fire at 12:14 AM.
The firefighters risked their lives greatly, entered the apartment via two entrances to save the family and sadly saw that a child had died in the tragic fire,” said First Sergeant Kobi Erez.
The seven year old was declared dead on scene by Magen David Adom. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 PM at the Beit Shemesh cemetery.
