Last weekend, Canada hosted a global conference for Russian-speaking Jews that drew a crowd of 500.
It offered a wide variety of seminars, such as “Canadian Jews: A unique community or just American Jews in the Making?” and “Not Just ISIS and Hamas: the threat of Islamic Radicalization on the Western World.” It also featured plays, nature walks and sessions for children.
Other topics covered the situation in Ukraine and Jewish life in the Russian Empire.
This was the first time Canada held this conference. About 333,000 Jews live in Canada, including about 70,000 Russian speakers, many of whom live in Toronto.
