Due to the rise in concern about the spread of the Corona virus, family members announced that, at least until the next week, Rav Chaim Kanievsky’s home will be closed to visitors.  The announcement was reported by Kikar HaShabbat, a popular Israeli website.

Rav Chaim Kanievsky, is known throughout the Torah world as the Sar HaTorah – the Prince of Torah. He is the object of many visits throughout the day for both blessings and advice.  Indeed, last week, no one was permitted to either shake or kiss the Rav’s hand on account of the concern.  For those with pressing needs, questions can be faxed in.

Yesterday, new evidence was published about just how contagious and durable the Corona virus actually is.  It can stay in the air from 3 hours to as much as 42 hours, and it can remain upon surfaces for up to 72 hours.  This explains why, despite general precautions taken, the virus has been so contagious.

Good ventilation is thus key.  Windows should be opened whenever feasible.  Cross-ventilation is also important in making sure that the virus dissipates from a room where an infected person had entered.
