Emergency teams evacuated the offices of the Israeli embassy in Uruguay on Thursday amid a bomb scare, local media reported.

Security forces reportedly cleared the vicinity after a “suspicious item” was found near Montevideo’s World Trade Center complex, which houses the Israeli mission.

According to local reports, police sources said the building that encompasses the embassy was evacuated as a matter of “caution.”

A  local firefighting source said the suspected explosive device – comprised of a white plastic bag encasing cables and a small device – was discovered by a canine unit during a routing tour of the premises of the financial district in Uruguay’s capital.

Security forces cordoned off the area and sappers arrived to the scene to neutralize the device.

No injuries or damage were reported.
